Greetings from Canada. I am every mindful of how fortunate I am to write this message as a member of the LGBTQ+ community and as a judge. In many areas of the globe our LGBTQ+ family cannot safely be themselves and live authentically and openly, as a member of the judiciary or otherwise. Our Association navigates these delicate situations, where lives and safety are on the line, always with the hope that one day this will not be necessary. Even those of us in countries with more acceptance and protections find ourselves too often in brave spaces, as opposed to safe spaces. As members of this wonderful and diverse community we know the importance of chosen families and our members are family to us. Everyone has a home here. Our membership is diverse, dedicated, and knowledgeable.
LGBTQ+ Judges offers high quality and timely education to its members, and to members of the public. We support our members in their work, sharing resources and experiences. We strive to support the next generation, mentoring and offering scholarships to law students and lawyers. We aspire to be part of justice and legal systems that are responsive to the needs of our communities and representative of the communities they serve.
