Members of the IALGBTJ are cordially invited to attend our 2018 Annual Meeting and Conference. This year, we will meet at the New York Marriott Marquis from August 8 to 10, 2018 in conjunction with the National LGBT Bar Association’s Lavender Law Conference and Career Fair. For the first time this year, we will offer 3 hours of judicial education through the Judicial Education Institute.
Our Annual Meeting and Conference provides a great opportunity to socialize and network with judges from across the United States and the world. In addition to the educational programs, we usually offer unique events during the conference. Past events included a private tour of the United States Supreme Court and the United States Senate chambers – led by the official Senate historian – in Washington, D.C. in 2016, and a guided tour of the National AIDS Memorial Grove – led by its executive director – in San Francisco, CA in 2017.
Our activities kick off on Wednesday, August 8 with the President’s Happy Hour. IALGBTJ members and guests will gather at 7:30 p.m. on the Marriott Marquis’ Broadway Terrace for complimentary wine, beer and good cheer, not to mention the great view overlooking Times Square. (We’ll move indoors if the weather is inclement.) Cocktails and food will be available for purchase, and RSVPs are required.
On Friday morning. August 10, IALGBTJ members are encouraged to join President Dan Anders for an informal brainstorming session. Topics will include:
- What creates value for IALGBTJ members?
- How do we increase the visibility of our Association to prospective members; to other judicial organizations; to the LGBT community; to the international community?
- What projects do members want the Association to undertake?
- How do we increase connections among members between Annual Meetings?
- Is there interest in creating state or regional organizations/committees for our members?
Members will be welcome to bring up additional topics for discussion.
This year’s Annual Dinner will be held Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. at Marseille, a French-Mediterranean restaurant that is within walking distance of the hotel. The price is $95 per person, which includes food, beer, wine and soft drinks from 8 until 10 p.m., along with taxes and gratuity. Marseille is an accessible restaurant. (Early arrivals may elect to begin gathering at the cash bar at 7:30 p.m.)
To attend the President’s Happy Hour and/or Annual Dinner, please RSVP to Larnzell as soon as possible. If you have already informed Larnzell that you plan to attend, no confirmation is needed.
