Honorable David Gernant

The first openly gay male judge in Oregon, Judge Gernant graduated from Harvard Law School in 1968. He served as a judge from 1986 to 2008.

Upon his retirement, Judge Gernant moved to Michigan where he immersed himself in musical theater and his greatest love – travel. Often traveling without advance reservations, he visited all 50 states and 124 countries. Each week, he averaged 1000 digital images of his travels. Judge Gernant died while traveling in Argentina on a nearly one year long journey across the world.

Judge Gernant was a founding member of the International Association of LGBTQ+ Judges.
