The Bay Area Reporter reports on the record number of LGBT judges in California. There are currently 56 openly LGBT judges serving on the state appellate and trial courts. There are no openly LGBT judges serving on the CA Supreme Court. The article notes that Governor Jerry Brown — who appointed the first openly gay judge in the United States in 1979 (our own Judge Stephen Lachs) — has appointed more LGBT judges than the rest of all of the other CA judges combined.
