The Hon. Betty Owen Stinson

The Hon. Betty Owen Stinson (deceased) is a former justice of the Bronx County Supreme Court in the 12th Judicial District of New York. She was elected to the seat in 2001. Her term ended in 2013.

The 12th Judicial District includes Bronx County. Stinson held an assignment in the Civil Term of the Supreme Court. She began her judicial career as a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York in Bronx County following her election to the bench in 1997.

Prior to joining the bench, Stinson was a principal law secretary with the New York State Unified Court System (1986 to 1996). Before that, she managed her own solo practice for six years.

Stinson received a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University in 1964. She then completed a J.D. at the University of Florida, Fredric G. Levin College of Law, in 1967. Stinson was admitted to practice in Florida (1967) and New York (1980).
